Dark and Stormy
A spicy combination of dark rum and fiery ginger beer. thought to originate from when sailors added dark rum from bermuda and ginger beer brewed to combat sea sickness, when mixed together resembled the dark murky hue of storm clouds - “The colour of a cloud only a fool or a dead man would sail under”.
INGREDIENTS
50ml dark or spiced rum (traditional is Goslings)
100ml fiery ginger beer (try Big Willie or Fentimans)
25ml fresh lime
Dash of Angostura bitters (optional)
Method
1. Combine the ingredients over a handful of ice, a few dashes of Angostura bitters (optional) and garnish with a wedge of lime.
2. For a great effect, pour the ginger beer over ice first, and slowly float the rum over the top.
3. A twist on the classic; try garnishing with a clapped sprig of mint to make a ‘Minty mule’.
