The panama 2004 is an exceptional spirit from the Varela Hermanos Distillery, representing Panama's storied rum-making tradition. The rum reflects the enduring heritage of Panamanian rum production, which began with the introduction of sugarcane by the Spanish in the 16th century.

This batch matured for 12 years in Panama’s tropical climate in ex-Bourbon casks, followed by 7 years of continental aging in the UK in ex-rum casks. Bottled in 2023 with an ABV of 57.5%, this single cask release is entirely pure, containing no added flavors, coloring agents, or sugars. Limited to just 254 bottles, it captures the essence of Panama's history, craftsmanship, and dedication to excellence, offering a unique and authentic rum experience.

Nose – Vanilla and custard cream from the start, then fudge, liquorice roots, and an overriding fruit character of apricot and candied orange peel, combined with a touch of honey. Underneath, a touch of overripe banana plus a gentle spiciness of ground black pepper and a little balsamic note

Palate – Flavours of vanilla, honey, and cigar box. Silky honey syrup sweetness blanched out by bitter sensations of ground coffee and liquorice. Dried peach, apricot, dried figs, and dates on the mid-palate, winter spices, a hint of leather and butterscotch on the finish
